Learning communities play an integral part of the development and well-being of a young person. For individuals who have experienced trauma, reintegrating and flourishing in a learning environment can be challenging. Trauma-informed teaching allows teachers to acknowledge the complex ways which trauma impacts vulnerable populations such as migrants, refugees, and marginalized learners' lives and provides strategies that empower learning in a way that does not re-traumatize or trigger individuals. Through the lens of trauma model theory, trauma theory, research studies, and empirical evidence, the goal of the workshop I am presenting in Marrakech, Morocco is to answer how learning communities can utilize restorative reintegration strategies and trauma informed teaching to mitigate symptoms of trauma.
